I have a cute little story that sort of makes me look a bit foolish, but the truth is, it actually happened. Back in the 80′s, I started a new job at a facility that produced filming agents. I was happy to be accepted by the crew. I went to the cafe at exactly 5:15. There was no one there. He meant the mixer in the factory. I interpreted industrial mixer as an event.
I heard of someone who was so excited that he had finished a year long project to supply all smart phones with a particular unnamed app. he thought would sell like hotcakes. Fortunately and unfortunately, his sister recommended that he consult with a marketing research company before he went hogwild spending money to advertise it. Thankfully. he took her advice. As it turned out, there were already two versions of his app. idea on their way to being copyrighted. He wasted a year working on this but could have wasted a small fortune trying to market it.
I walked into an old college buddy’s office downtown. He had this bright and cheery disposition going on. I felt his forehead to see if he was running a fever. How could he be so relaxed and pleased with himself during his busiest season of the year? Last year this time, he walked around like a zombie one minute and like a roaring lion the next. It is driving me crazy with the anticipation of becoming a part of their project. I would love to join them and spend a year or so working in the atmosphere of a culture that is foreign to me in every way. I am of the belief of the old adage that “variety is the spice of life.” The problem is, I don’t know where to begin to have them even consider hiring me.
